Physical DescriptionLight green very heavy glass with bubbles; free-blown and cold painted. (a) Cylindrical body with pushed up base having rough pontil mark, applied pinched foot ring; decoration: the body is divided into two sections by red and yellow staff-like uprights and arcaded inscription bands, each register containing five rectangles which enclose the symbolic full length figures representing the stages of life from ten years to one hundred years (for the inscription, compare inscriptions 57.3.86, with a slightly different spelling); below rim broad band consisting of white saw tooth, white beads, a ribbon of hatched triangles, and a gilded scaled band studded with blue beads and accompanied by red lines and white dotted lines, at the bottom another white band with hatched triangles accompanied by rows of white dots and a saw tooth line; (b) flanged, domed cover with multi-knopped and multi-merese finial; around the shoulder of the cover an ornamental band consisting of a brown line accompanied by white dashes and dots, and by a wavy line on top; the flange also has a brown band, white dashes and red bands around the knops and mereses of the finial.
