Physical DescriptionClear glass with few bubbles; free-blown and tooled, with sepia enamel decoration. (a) Conical foot with thickened underfolded rim and rough pontil mark, composite stem (Nuremberg style) consisting of an inverted baluster followed below by a cushioned flattened knop, and above by two cushioned flattened knops (not well executed), cup-shaped bowl; (b) flanged cover with rounded top and solid double ball finial (original ?); enamel decoration in brown sepia enamel; on the foot a wreath with fat curved leaves and blossoms; on the bowl a classical landscape running around the whole circumference, and including two classicistic ruins with trees and bushes growing out of buildings in front of one a nude boy sitting on a stone (soap bubbles ?), beside the other ruin two gentlemen in 17th century costumes, between the ruins a lake, mountainous landscape and a castle-like building, on the opposite side a similar view on a lake, a castle-like building with big turrets and mountains; on the cover a landscape frieze including trees, three groups of buildings representing silhouettes of towns and villages.Provenance
