Physical DescriptionHumpen. Clear glass with many minute bubbles and impurities; free-blown and enameled. Cylindrical body with high pushed up base having rough pontil mark and double walled foot ring made of same gather as Humpen; enamel decoration: on the obverse the representation of the Ochsenkopf, represented here as a large mountain densely covered with trees; near the top the head of an ox against a bluish-grey rock formation, on top a church in pink, yellow and brown-red, below the ochs a golden chain with a lock; at the bottom four rivers flow out of the mountain; along its edges there are heads of game including a sheep-like animal, wolves, stags, boars, foxes and hare; on the reverse the following inscription: "Hier mein alter Fichtelberg ist noch immer grun von Haare da doch seiner Jahre Ziel Adam selbst nicht gleichen kan, Thut mit seinem edlen wild sich verjungen alle Jahre, dansz sein Laub und grune Zweig, Jedermann mit Lust schaut an kan. Last alsz teutsches Paradeisz vier der Strohme von sich fliessen, die da alle Theil der Welt lauffen wundrungs wurdig aus. Dasz wohl mancher kluge Kopf sein Gehirne hat zerrissen, wie bey seinem Kunst- verstand, Er, das Gold flitsch seiffe drausz. MAYN die EGER, NAAB und SAAL, sind es, so von selben Quellen, worinn dann das Schuppicht Volck wird so hauffiglich ernahrt, als: Lampreten, Aal und Hecht, samt Sartellen und Forellen und was sonst dergleichen mehr, hoch und niedrigs- Stands verzehrt. Sein so trefflich Eingeweyd ist Gold, Silver, Kupffer, Eiszen, Auch was sonst von grossen Gott, Seegenreich darinnen fliest. Dasz wann oft der faule Hirt nach der Kuh den Stein musz schmeiszen dreymal mehr wegwerffen kan alsz die Kuh selbst schatzbar ist.
