Physical DescriptionClear slightly bubbly comparatively heavy glass with slight grey tinge; free-blown, enameled and gilded. Straight-sided beaker slightly tapering downwards to pushed up base with rough pontil mark, applied foot ring; enamel decoration: on the obverse in multicolored enamel (enamel blistering) the full-length figures of a woman and a man in very rich pseudo 17th century costumes, shaking hands; between their heads a putti with spread arms and wings and holding two leaf wreaths above the heads of the couple; between the knees of the couple the date: "1652"; they stand on a grass strip with large grass tufts; on the reverse a lily-of-the-valley stalk with very large leaves in green, red and yellow; above the inscription: "DAS DIESE SEI DIE LIEBSTE MEIN, WOLLE GOTT MEIN ZEUGE SEIN. GLAUBE LIEBE UND GOTTES SELIGKEIT GEBEN DIE KRON DER HERLIGKEIT." (That she may be my loved one may God witness. Faith, love and God's splendor and God's blessing give the crown of splendor.); below rim a gilded band studded with green and red dots, accompanied below by two rows of white beads, below grass strip a red and blue line, white dashes on the foot ring; a large star between the man and the flower stalk consisting of a blue center surrounded by a yellow line, with radiating spirals and dashes.Provenance
