Physical DescriptionClear extremely bubbly glass with grey tinge; free-blown, enameled and gilded. (a) Almost cylindrical body with pushed up base having rough pontil mark, applied foot ring; enamel decoration: the German Emperor clad in a red and yellow coat and holding a scepter and orb of state, sitting on a throne with a green back and yellow and blue canopy, in the front of his knees, a double headed eagle on white pedestal; the Emperor is flanked by the seven Electors, standing, clad in red coats and white furs, holding their symbols, and accompanied by their coats of arms; all are standing on a strip of grass; on the reverse a white lily-of-the-valley with green leaves and light blue and yellow flower-like branches; underneath the grass strip a white star-like ornament including volutes, palmettes and dashes; below rim a golden band with two lines scratched into the gold, accompanied by four rows of white and blue beads; white dashes on the foot ring; above the personages an inscription, above the Electors their names; below the main frieze a long inscription, in three columns. (b) Flanged, domed cover of clear bubbly glass with greenish-grey tinge, bulge on top supporting a stemmed solid ball knop finial; on the cover four lozenge-shaped ornaments accompanied by white scrolls and multicolored dots, on the bulge a heavy enamel, blossom, leaves in aqua, light blue and red as well as a red strip with yellow dashes, around the finial a row of white dots, the top of the finial is gilded.
