Physical DescriptionClear glass with practically no bubbles and with greyish- yellowish tint; glass surface is slightly clouded; free-blown, enameled and gilded. Almost cylindrical body slightly tapering at top and bottom, with pushed up base having rough pontil mark; applied foot ring; enamel decoration: the object is divided in two zones framed by gilded bands having a scale pattern, studded with red and green pearls and accompanied by rows of white and blue pearls; the two zones bear the full-length figure of S. Mauritius in armor, holding with his left hand a shield with a double headed eagle against a yellow background and having in his right hand the standard with a red cross on a white background; the coats of arms in the two zones belong to the members of the chapter of Magdeburg; above S. Mauritius the date 1594; the coats of arms are accompanied by the following names and titles: "Ludwig von Lochow Domdechant; Vichart von Bredow (Wichart) Senior und thessaurarius; Ernst von Meltzing, Subsenior; Titke von Mollendorf Cantor; Friedrich von Arnstadt; Johan von Arnim, Cellarius; Cuno von Lochow; Christoff von Hunigte (Hunigke); Wolffg. Spitznas, Camerarius; Heinrich von der Asseburgk, Vice Dominus; Christoff von ghorne, Scholaster; Ludwig von Lochow"; coats of arms are separated from each other by gilded lozenge-shaped motifs studded with green and red beads and accompanied by white and red beads and crescents; the grass strip on which S. Mauritius stands is flanked by two star-like motifs consisting of white and yellow beads; white dashes on the foot ring; on the base there is an old catalogue number in green: "S448".Provenance
