Physical DescriptionComparatively heavy clear glass with many minute bubbles and a few impurities, and slight grey tinge; free-blown, enameled and gilded. Slender cylindrical body with pushed up base having rough pontil mark, attached to a high pedestal foot with thickened rim (foot is new and responsible for the heaviness of the glass); the stange is divided into four equal parts separated from each other by gilded bands (mostly rubbed off) each accompanied by two white lines; on the obverse in multi- colored enamel the coat of arms of Saxony accompanied by scroll- cartouches; on the top section: "I. G. D. 4. H. Z. S. I. C. B. E. u. W. C." (Johann Georg der 4. Herzong zu Sachsen, Julich, Cleve, Berg, Engern und Westfalen Churfurst); underneath: "1693"; the top gold band is also accompanied by a line of curlicues, a U-shaped line and a white band.Provenance
