Physical DescriptionHumpen. Smoky pale amber non-lead glass, full of bubbles; free-blown, gilded and enameled. Tall cylindrical form, incurved slightly at top, and with wide hollow spreading foot-ring applied around edge of smooth base with shallow kick-up; polychrome "jeweled" enameled decoration: at top, bottom, and between broad bands, narrow bands with three rows of alternate red and green "pearls" on gilded field (gilt much worn) bordered by circle of white "pearls" within one of pale blue; broad bands -- names and in some instances offices of noblemen (probably members of the cathedral chapter of Magdeburg) inscribed in opaque white at top and above member's Arms in close ranks, and, in spaces between top and bottom of arms, gilt diamond with white "pearl" at center and on each side at ends of diagonals; at center of top band, Saint Mauritius (Maurice) in Knight's armor, carrying a lance used as staff for his banner with a red Latin cross on a white field, and holding a shield with double-headed eagle.
